The sixth step of the research process highlights reading techniques such as skimming and scanning, to easily locate worthwhile, valuable or meaningful information.
Step Six: Read Selectively
- Skim texts to see which ones are worthwhile
- Scan the table of contents, the introduction, the conclusion and the abstract
- Look for text features such as chapter headings, section headings, boldface words,
italicized words, captions, sidebars, glossary and/or index - Highlight, italicize or bold important information or quotes
- Review the bibliography for additional resources
- Summarize key points
