Demonstrative Pronouns

Demonstrative Pronouns | Les pronoms démonstratifs

Demonstrative pronouns agree in gender (masculine [m.], feminine [f.]) and in number (singular [s.], plural [pl.]) with the nouns to which reference is intended.

They express “this/that/the one” in the singular and “these/those/the ones” in the plural.
French demonstrative pronouns cannot stand alone.

They are usually followed by the tags –ci (this/the latter) or – (that/the former); by de or ; or by the relative pronouns qui, que.
