Demonstrative pronouns agree in gender (masculine [m.], feminine [f.]) and in number (singular [s.], plural [pl.]) with the nouns to which reference is intended.
They express “this/that/the one” in the singular and “these/those/the ones” in the plural.
French demonstrative pronouns cannot stand alone.
They are usually followed by the tags –ci (this/the latter) or –là (that/the former); by de or où; or by the relative pronouns qui, que.

Joey and Samuel are brothers. The latter (that one) is a pharmacist and the former (this one) is a dentist.

féminin, singulier
Je ne peux pas décider entre ces deux robes. (f. p.) Celle (f. s.) en coton est plus jolie et aussi moins chère que celle (f. s.) en soie.
I cannot decide between these two dresses. The cotton one is prettier and also less expensive than the silk one.

Max décide quels raisins (m. pl.) il veut manger.
Il ne sait pas si il veut ceux-ci (m. pl.) ou ceux-là (m. pl.).
Max decides what grapes he wants to eat.
He does not know if he wants these or those.

Je n’aime pas les pommes (f. pl.) que j’achète au magasin, mais j’aime mieux celles (f. pl.) au marché.
I do not like the apples that I buy at the store but I like the ones at the market.
