During the Explore | Explorer phase, students gather and work with a variety of resources from a range of sources. Students clarify and extend their question(s) based on their research and investigations. They collaborate with other learners to communicate and share their findings and thinking.

Guiding questions students may ask during the Explore | Explorer phase:

• Ai-je développé un plan efficace pour mon enquête ? | Have I developed an effective plan for my inquiry?

• Quelles sont les stratégies et les compétences essentielles ? Quelles stratégies de lecture, d’écriture et de résolution de problèmes m’aideront à réaliser mon enquête ? Quelles techniques d’entrevue et quelles compétences en pensée critique, recherche et communication m’aideront à mener mon enquête ? | What strategies and skills will I need to use? What reading, writing and problem-solving strategies will help with my investigation? What interviewing, critical thinking, research, communication skills will help in conducting my inquiry?

• Comment vais-je recueillir, enregistrer et/ ou organiser l’information ? Vais-je utiliser des listes, des tableurs, des bases de données, des repères graphiques, des tableaux et graphiques, des mémos, des notes, des toiles, des cartes fiches, une bibliographie de travail ? | How will I gather, record and/or organize the information? Will I use lists, spreadsheets, databases, graphic organizers, graphs, memos, notes, webs, note cards, a working bibliography?

• Quelles sont les sources potentielles pouvant être utilisées ? Quelles sont les sources disponibles ? Sont-elles utiles, informatives, appropriées et pertinentes ? | What are the potential sources that might be used? Which sources are available? Are they useful, informative, suitable and relevant?

• Comment vais-je repérer ces sources ? Comment vais-je trouver l’information dans chaque source ? Comment vais-je évaluer l’information que je trouve ? | How will I locate these sources? How will I find the information within each source? How will I evaluate the information that I find?

• La gamme de mes résultats est-elle trop vaste, trop étroite ou trop générale ? Ai-je trouvé des sources ayant des perspectives différentes ? | Is the range of my findings too broad, too narrow or too general? Have I located sources with diverse perspectives?

• Y a-t-il des lacunes d’information ? Est-il nécessaire d’effectuer plus de recherches ? | Are there information gaps? Is more research needed?

• Est-ce que les informations et les preuves répondent aux questions demandées ? Soutiennent-elles l’énoncé de la thèse ou l’hypothèse ? | Does the information and the evidence answer the question(s) asked? Does the information and the evidence support the thesis statement or hypothesis?

• Les renseignements conduisent-ils à de nouvelles questions ? Mon plan a-t-il besoin d’ajustements? Mes questions doivent-elles être précisées, révisées, détaillées ou prolongées ? | Does the information lead to new questions? Does my plan need adjustments? Do my questions need to be clarified, revised, refined or extended?
